Aleesha StephensonTwo years ago I was sitting in a restaurant with my hubby and 3 kids when our cell phone rang. A voice on the other end asked if I would be interested in writing an article for their magazine. I was thrilled and excited. I had never written anything for publication in the way of an article before…..but, in my usual style, I said "yes", jumped right in and then started to figure out how to do what they asked!

After my first article was submitted, Jeni asked me if I would be interested in sharing in a regular column and again, I jumped! Writing has been so fulfilling for me. I wrote speeches and poetry (and in a journal for years) but I never even dreamed of being a published writer. Now here I am, with a regular column! Wow!

Almost two years later Jeni asked me to be the Guest Editor for the December 2002 issue. Again I jumped in. I found, through doing this work, a part of me awakened that I didn't even know was sleeping. I felt as though I was fulfilling part of my purpose and walking on a new portion of my path. This job required me to experience and grow in ways that I never even conceived of.

Now, Jeni has offered me an even greater opportunity…Production Editor of Body, Mind, Spirit Magazine. Have you ever had something happen in your life you didn't even know you wanted, because it was so far off in the "realm of possibilities" that you never even dreamed it would happen? This is what being an editor for Body, Miind, Spirit Magazine is to me. A dream I never knew I had, coming true!

My desire for BMS is that this magazine mirrors a grove of Birch trees. Yes, a grove of trees, but rather than differing heights and sizes, they are all equal. This is one of the qualities of Birch trees. They all grow to the same height because there is strength in that. When the winds blow, they support each other and none fall over. They also get equal light, equal opportunity for health and growth. New Birch trees don't start from seed, instead they grow from another's roots, receiving nourishment from each other.

I hope, by shining my light and assisting all of the talented writers and artists to shine theirs, here at “Body, Mind, Spirit”, this magazine will continue to grow into a place of sharing, learning and growth for the readers and writers alike. Perhaps if I'm lucky, I'll fulfil some writers' and artists' dreams, just like mine were fulfilled. Here, in this place of enlightenment!
