People often question me about the choices that I make in my life. Many of them are volunteer positions and I do it because I love the work. Everything I do in my life is for the love of it, the passion of putting my energy into it, and the enjoyment I get back out of it. I’d like to share a story my Reiki Grandmother tells: “A man was driving down a country road, looking for a nice place to stop and eat his lunch. He parked beside an apple orchard and watched a farmer carrying a ladder and walking along the edge of the trees, with his pig trotting happily alongside. As he ate he saw the farmer go from tree to tree, putting the ladder up against it, picking up his pig and climbing the ladder. The pig would eat as many apples as he could reach and then the farmer would carefully carry the pig down the ladder and repeat this process with the next tree. After an hour of watching this, the man approached the farmer, asking him what he was doing? Why was he wasting all that time climbing the ladder, carrying the pig and letting him feed right off the tree rather than just gathering some apples and putting them in a bin for him to eat? It’s such a waste of time! The farmer looked at the man and said, “Ya, but what’s time to a pig?” What’s time, indeed? It really is purely a measurement after all and depending on your definition of what makes it precious, the meaning can be altered tremendously. For me, every moment needs to be enjoyed...fully...completely. If I’m loving the moment; whether it’s working on this magazine, meditating with a group of like-minded people, digging in my flower garden, colouring with my 4-year-old, or throwing the ball for my dog…it’s the love of it that matters to me, not how much time it takes. This issue is filled with glimpses into the lives of people who love what they are doing with their time. I hope that as you read this issue, you may find out what assisted many of them to discover what their path is, and perhaps even open some opportunities for yourself as well. I would like to welcome a new member to our staff, (who, by the way, also lives by this motto) Maggie Frost, our new Copy Editor. As Jeni, Jay and myself all live by this motto as well, it is a wonderful symbiotic dance we are creating here, at Body Mind Spirit. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoy putting it together for you. Welcome Maggie! In light, Aleesha Stephenson
