Wind Swept Words

Ten Thousand Rainbows by Jennifer Monaghan

a crystal hangs in the window
swaying gently back and forth
emitting thousands of tiny rainbows
that dance on the light blue walls
the little girl reaches out to touch
them and giggles when they
jump from the wall onto her hand
she frowns as the rainbows
still themselves, then walks to the
window with an air of superiority
and bats with her small fingers
at the crystalline pendant
the rainbows resume their
waltz and the little girl grins
she watches for hours, fascinated
she could watch from sun-up to
twilight if they would let her
they come to take her away
they shove her under a stream
of water and take a rough cloth
to her skin, then they force
hot food into her mouth and pound
on the table when she spits it out
they try to make her put
small pieces of cardboard
together but she does not care
they try to make her talk with her
hands but she does not want to
she screams and plugs her ears
she closes her eyes, rocking
back and forth, seeing the colours
in her mind, seeing them dancing in
the palm of her hand. she waits
impatiently as they try to make her
tell time. she waits impatiently
until they give up and let her go
back to her room and back to her
ten thousand tiny rainbows
where she sits in contentment, rocking
back and forth to the silent rainbow song
until the afternoon sun fades
and the dancing rainbows sleep

Merry-Go-Round by Darla Fitzgerald

Calliope whistles and
the music plays.
Children race
to claim their steeds.
Painted favorites are
galloping and keeping time.
Sliding on their poles while
going up and going down.

Lonely, I stand
in a row of black ponies.
My legs are bolted to the floor
and I'm unable to run.
Wishing I was a painted favorite,
going up and down with time.
Longing to know
that I really matter.
Yearning for someone
to show me that they care.

Secret mysteries,
I dream each night.
Discovering the voice
of wisdom within.
Listen to your heart and
believe in your hopes.
Celebrate
the magical surprises of life.

Special purposes are
designed for your creation.
Fulfilling the plan
only you can do.

Afraid of
the up and down, painted horses.
A little girl rides a black pony
that is standing in a row.

Amnesia by Katie Day

Hard to remember, and to recall
Memories, thoughts...any at all
The sweet scent of dreams, the aroma of life
Is nearly within my reach, just at my fingertips
When I search for an answer, try to find a time
All that answers is nothing but blackness, not a sign
I can go on, and pretend I remember my childhood
Make up my own special, memorable times, bad or good
But deep down in my empty soul I know that's all I'm seeing
But until I get my answer, the key to unlock my hidden past
I'll keep searching and digging deep down within my mind to the last
Year, month, hour, minute, second, of my existance
No matter how scared, confused, and lost I can be, I'll keep my resistance
For if I give in, and collapse to my knees
And lose all faith or reason to believe
Then all hope for me will fade away, and I'll wither like a dying flower
Losing another petal every day, browning at the edges
I'll continue feeding my spirit, to keep it alive
Until I can finally remember what I've long forgotten
I will survive this shadow thrown over my life...Amnesia

Cape Mudge Breakfast X3 by Andy

The Lady behind the perched Brass Bird, Didn’t know that I had heard,
[Her Say As She Walked Away]
What a handsome man.
As I hidden behind the greenery and the slowly turning fan,
Thought to myself, If only she knew, How Lonely.
[I REALLY AM]
HER hair a single braid of reddish gold,
Hangs dead centre,
Down the graceful arch of her back.
Further down brings on thoughts of pictures I'll sadly lack.
HER SMILE,
Out-shines the Capes Light I see from the window beside me.
The flash of her smile guides me like a lost ship to the green of her eyes,
Unlike the grey of the pounding seas below me.
ONE GLANCE, A FEW OVERHEARD WORDS,
Was just enough, I would've given her my heart, my soul, my eternal love.
All this in the time it took for a coffee, a day dream, and the scribbling of this,
On the back of a place mat.
I often think WHAT IF ?
I'd had the nerve, I went back, but of course she had left,
WAS SHE AS LONELY AS I WAS ?

My Heart by Charlene Enns

Throughout the day I think of you
On my face, a smile
I love it when you make me laugh
And tame my spirit wild.

That you were sent to share my life
has truly left me blessed-
A friend, a lover, confidante-
you truly know me best.

I lean on you, you hold me tight
You strengthen what is weak-
You make me feel complete and strong
When I feel small and meek.

You center me, and ground my feet
When my mind flies, flutters, or fears-
You gently listen as I bemoan
and tumble down hot tears.

My ying to yang, my bestest friend
I love you so complete-
You are my rock- my anchor
and for you ...my heart does beat...
