Some retreats are so filled with activities, they become just as hectic as the lifestyle the guests are retreating from.

Retreatants easily lose their original purpose - to quietly reflect and re-connect with themselves, with nature, and with God.

Located on eighty acres of land in western Illinois, Christ in the Wilderness retreat center offers reflective retreats away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

A beautiful viewSet within a beautifully forested landscape, three small cabins called hermitages offer the solitude and isolation needed for the meditation that Christ in the Wilderness encourages. There are no phones, televisions or computers. The hermitages are sprinkled throughout the landscape so that guests will not disturb each other. Though there is a phone in the main house, it is meant for emergencies only.

Each hermitage offers single-person accommodation, allowing time alone for contemplative reflection. Spiritual direction and guidance are available to those who wish to discuss their journey.

Three miles of hiking trails wind through the land at Christ in the Wilderness. Populated by deer and birds, the wilderness provides a wonderful way to reconnect with nature. A stroll down the retreat trails is enough to inspire and calm any visitor. There are many beautiful sights in the forests and meadows, from a simple colourful flower to a pristine sunset.

Christ in the Wilderness was founded in 1980 by Lorraine Mark, a sister of St. Joseph of LaGrange, Illinois. Following her own experience of life-changing solitude, she decided to share the experience with others. The retreat center was established to provide privacy and quiet to those who need time away from their busy lives.

Providing solitude and time for quiet reflection in a beautiful, natural environment, Christ in the Wilderness welcomes retreatants of every religious background. For those seeking time alone and an environment conducive to prayer and contemplation, Christ in the Wilderness is a great place for a retreat.

Christ in the Wilderness is a non-profit organization striving to keep retreatant costs low; donations are welcome. To learn more about Christ in the Wilderness retreat, visit them online at: www.citwretreat.com
