Medicine Woman Talk with Janet Hobbs |

Janet is a Vancouver-based healer and writer who specializes in helping people become their true selves. Even one session can facilitate enormous change. I wanted to spotlight her work for Body Mind Spirit Magazine. HOW WOULD YOU CHARACTERIZE YOUR WORK? My work is basically teaching people to surrender to their higher selves in a very grounded, very gentle, compassionate way. Humanity is making this evolutionary leap into higher consciousness and we're having to feel into it. Speaking metaphorically, we're moving from a hut into a mansion. COULD YOU ELABORATE? Well, our awareness, despite our scientific knowledge and technological breakthroughs, has been the size of a hut. We feel separate from ourselves, each other and God. I mean, when we want to find out about something, we kill it to study it. In contrast, aboriginal cultures just become what they want to know about They can throw their consciousness because they know they are part of All That Is. I have a nice story about that. When I was in Hawaii studying with a Hawaiian kahuna, I was weeding under a tree. Suddenly the tree began to say to me: Mummy! Mummy! This kept going so finally I got up and went looking for the kids. One of them was down at the beach, in tears, saying: Mummy! Mummy! The tree gave me the message. Now tell me we're not connected. In contrast, we learn distrust. If you think the universe is random, any moment you can be a victim. This in turn, spawns a reductionist approach to life. If we can't see our own Divinity, how do we see it in others and in nature? So there is a lot of violence and abuse of the vulnerable, the gentler values get lost, and we lose our sense of meaning. The question really is do we allow our trust and awareness to get bigger, or do we go extinct? Getting bigger, moving from the hut to the mansion, requires we allow our definition of what it means to be human to expand. We are these huge multi-dimensional Divine geniuses and we try to shoehorn ourselves into our old patterns of humanity we are outgrowing. WHAT PATTERNS ARE THESE? All the archetypes of human experience that have come down through the ages. We're outgrowing our own definitions of man/woman/mother/father/ and even child. Nothing fits so well anymore, so often we walk round feeling bad, thinking we're the only ones having trouble. But scientists confirm our cells and DNA are changing. Living nowadays is like living with renovations. But as you learn to flow with it, it's fun. It's a lot like surfing. You catch the wave and laugh. EXPLAIN The goal is to become who you really are, to live your divinity on earth. It can be done. The results are more compassion, more happiness, more healing talents and genius. Plus biological changes in your body. When you flow with what the Universe wants, you become joyful. It's pretty simple, at least in theory. WHAT STOPS US FROM BECOMING MORE? Our ideas of good and bad are so limiting. We spend so much time judging ourselves and judging others we forget to love. Or we try to make big expansive data fit into the old small boxes. I remember when my son healed miraculously from leukaemia years ago, the doctors were upset rather than curious. That's hut psychology. WHEN PEOPLE ARE FRIGHTENED, THEY LOOK FOR RULES? Yes. But if we look to the rules, internally we are going to feel like miserable sinners rather than Divine Beings because we're always going to fail finally. We're human. We're fallible. We're not fixable so much as lovable. When we forgive and love ourselves, we begin to see the unity of all things, good/bad, light/dark and know it is all part of the Source, the One, then we end separation and polarity and we do become compassion. We are no longer judging our world, we have stepped outside the hut, seeing ourselves as whole and one with everything. HOW DOES ONE MOVE FROM THE HUT TO THE MANSION? Obviously it has to be lived. Looking at what I did, I'd say: 1.Intend an expanded life. 2.With all your heart and soul, pretend it is possible. 3.Begin to build a compassionate attitude to yourself and others. If you keep tripping over the same problem, just start sending compassion to yourself. Keep it up. It signals the Universe that you are willing to receive Divine love and starts activating your subconscious to assist that process. If you keep this focus, especially before you go to sleep, your life will begin to change and different things will begin to happen. 4.Gently allow any numbing within you to melt. Feel your feelings knowing that they are okay, that your are truly Divine. 5. Find others who see who you really are. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHAT YOU DO IN A SESSION? It's really a spiritual activation. When someone comes I gently enable an opening and from that point, that person cannot go back. They cannot undo what has been opened and they have to respond, and allow their old patterns and old selves to go. THAT SOUNDS POWERFUL. Well, love is powerful. And the experience of great compassion tends to activate the Kundalini energy the Eastern religions talk about which then heals the person on all levels. Parts of the person which were numbed and shocked by early trauma, gently re-connect as people gradually grow out of who they think they are (the hut) to the person they were born to be. (mansion). Obviously their health improves too. I really want to emphasize the quality of joy to this work. It allows great happiness when one finally stops running from the truth of who one is. The surrender is ecstasy.
