Do you ever have the desire to become something you presently are not? Were, or are you willing to pay the price to make it happen? Did you give up or are you ready to spring up and get Online for Life? Since the age of 22 I had that desire, but I kept it hidden. At age 30 I let it out and did something about it - I made a decision and wrote out a S.M.A.R.T. goal. Knowing where I wanted to go, I used my job to help get me there. After all work is nothing more than a stepping stone to helping you get where you want to go. You can even say it is one of the costs you have to pay to make your dream a reality. After watching organizations provide earlier and younger retirement packages over the years, I felt that they would do the same to me, and probably by age 45 by the way things were looking. Therefore I had to be proactive and take care of me, the most important person in the world. Over a period of 15 years I maneuvered my way around within the same organization in order to get the experience, training and credentials in the areas that were in support of my overall goal. I learnt so much during those 15 years, mainly because I took risks and failed a lot, at the corporate expense of course. Something most corporate people don't do, because of their lack or self-confidence and direction in life. Remember, you have to fail often to succeed once. I didn't think about things, I just did them. It is in the doing that things get done, not in the thinking. I am so happy today for all of my failures, because every failure gave me a learning opportunity and because I failed so often, success is now stacked in my favor. I believe that success is based on good judgment. Good judgment is based on experience, and the only way to gain experience is through taking action, failing and learning. In my first book Online for Life, the 12 Disciplines to Living Your Dreams, Discipline 1 is all about your rights. You have the right to your dreams, desire and expectations, the right to like yourself as you are and the right to fail to name a few. Don't let the fear of failure or the past dictate your future. Well as 1997 came along I was on my way to taking the biggest risk in my life, with the support of my family of course. I left behind a six-digit salary, six weeks paid vacation, American Express Credit Card, unlimited expenses and travel. What really made the difference though was that I knew myself, where I wanted to go and had a lot of self-respect and self-discipline. Discipline is the key to living out any dream, that is if you want to succeed. Disciplines means respecting your commitment to yourself - doing what you have to do, even when you don't want to do it. That means doing the things you may not enjoy doing, like marketing and sales, networking, etc. Mind you those are the best things to do during down time, so the mind doesn't go Idol or wonder off into negativity. You heard it before. Success lies just around the corner. There will always be a brick wall or a valley to go through before you encounter success. Do you have faith in your dream? Last summer I turned 50. I surpassed my goals and realized how important faith, attitude and discipline are in my life, and in the lives of others. Attitude gives you 100% performance and Discipline gives you another 100% equaling 200%. Both are 100% under your control and feed off of each other. Have faith in your dreams, develop an attitude of gratitude and discipline yourself to do what you have to do, even when you don't want to do it. When you decide to live your dreams, discipline yourself and be the best you can possibly be. Reward yourself for doing it. Don't ever quit. No matter what, don't fall down - fall back, look up, see your dream, feel it and hear it. Get up, get over it and get Online for Life! Your dream is waiting for you, what are you waiting for?
