Tranformational Tales II

Let's resume where we left off. I was saying that we are essentially a fragmented society comprised of individuals who form loose associations around particular ideologies. These beliefs become so entrenched that many people will hurt or maim others who do not embrace their view. This as you are aware is not unique to any one culture, and I used ours simply because this is where we dwell. This division is a sickness of the human race itself and if left unchecked will continue to grow. How does one battle this disease that has become so prevalent? Do we organize into groups of good citizens and wage war against this insidious foe? Sounds a little too familiar and would probably only lead to further destruction! What can we do to make a difference? How does one change the world after all?

I am sure you have heard this one. One mind at a time and start with yours. That is the only true way to change anything, change you! How does one begin this revolution of one? Start as I mentioned with listening and seeing. This art of paying attention again must begin with us and with the voices that originate from inside. Everyone has them and most actually believe that these voices serve a function. Let's explore this further and ask what this continuous stream of internal dialogue is saying to us. Do these voices exist in the present moment or are they referring to past events or future possibilities? What sort of story is going on in your head? Is there a part of you that is not these voices and if so who or what is it? Is there anything inside of you that is not identified with a past or future experience? Have you ever looked at another human being and felt a sense of who they were without ever having to utter a word? Was the feeling that swept over you one of compassion? Perhaps you have had a moment where you witnessed a glint of sunlight on the glassy surface of a lake or noticed that the moon was too beautiful for words.

We have all had these insights where we witnessed the eternal that is not separate from us. Words are inadequate to describe these occurrences these anointing from the inner consciousness that whisper gently, "Wake up." The Zen folks call these glimpses "Positive Samadhi" and I liken them to the appetizers that give you a hint of what awaits you at dinner. Do you have a sense of that which I am speaking? As these experiences are woven into the fabric of our reality our story begins to change to nudge us lightly yet inexorably towards unity. It is my hope that you are enjoying this discourse and will join with me again as we continue to explore the realm of Transformational Tales.
