What is the history of Kirlian Photography?

Dr. Seymon and Valentina Kirlian are the founders of Kirlian work.

It came by accident that Seymon noted the exchange of electricity with the human body while an x-ray was being taken.

From this observation, and because he was a curious men and an inventor, he developed a camera to capture this unseen energy field. This field is known as corona and the auric field. His wife noted that in his photographs, his own auric fields had changed over the course of various photographs-- especially in the physical and mental body represented by the middle and ring fingers. At the time, Dr. Seymon was unaware of a physical disease developing. Together they fine-tuned this work over thirty years ago in Russia. They invested a special camera: a copper-based camera with a high frequency charge bar. Photos taken with this camera were shown in technical journals in Russia in 1959. American scientists became aware of these studies in the 1970s. The photgraphy is referred to by several names: Kirlian, electrophotography, radiation field or coronal discharge. These references were established from the different theories to explain this energy documentation. A new venue for medical diagnosis is a possibility through Kirlian research.

How has Kirlian Photography come to be used in holistic health and healing modalities?

Kirlian photography has been brought into holistic health&healing because it shows how energy fields are affected in illness (indicated by broken auric fields.) When a healing art is given to a client these jarred/broken fields fill with light and color. Many chiropracters, massage therapists, acupunturists have documented their clients' fields prior to a session and following. In each case their photos changed towards healing by a solid aura and color changes.

How do you personally make use of Kirlian Photography in your own healing practice?

My personal experience happened when working a full-time nght position on a continuing-care unit. I attended a seminar on Kirlian having a photo prior to the day's talks. I had nil auric fields, the ones I showed were faint and scattered. The day was filled with meditations, positive affirmations ect. My photo at end of the seminar was greatly improved. At least I looked alive! I had never heard about Kirlian or that how we think, feel, can affect our whole body. This was exciting stuff and it made perfect sense. Kirlian creates awareness on how mental, emotional physical, and spiritual body is affected. I commenced my own documentations while teaching Refexology courses. Since that time I have expanded to include other experiences with pets, products, mandalas. These photos are very interesting and unique. There are cameras that capture the whole body but they are expensive. The hand Kirlian camera is portable and scientifically sound in it own rite.

What results have you seen with it's use in your practice?

Because I have a professional nursing background I secured a hand Kirlian camera for scientific documentation to show medical community that healing arts as Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, Reflexology and massage do change energy fields towards healing. I have helped co-workers see how our work with very ill patients can affect our own health if we do not learn to protect our energy fields.Many years ago I worked in a Toronto hospital on neurology where three head- nurses I worked under developed a neurological dis-order. At the time I had no Knowledge that what we work in and how we work can affect health. Learning to meditate, ground, centering and protection Has greatly assisted me in maintaining a balanced life style which is evidenced in my improved auric fields.My clients, photos show this too.

What are some of the spectacular images that you have seen in your own practice?

My first experiment included a beginner's reflexology class with their permission I took before photos and follow-up photos after a session. It was an ah ha moment for everyone involved. I then did some further studies with my creative crafts (Therapeutic Touch Fuzzy puppets) they showed blue light around them after healing TT was done on them.When I did my own photo thinking about the feeling when making these crafts the photo showed a huge gold bar through all the fields on an emotional level indicates this work is exactly right to do! This same phenomena showed up in another photo while watching a beautiful blue spruce being cut down outside my home. I saw the tree's auric field come away in a blue-green shade. A huge gold bar goes through all the field again. My photos are all exciting, so it is hard to maintain a quiet acknowledgement that they are simple and of little importance.

What do you think the future of Kirlian Photography entails? How will will see it being used more widely in the future?

The future for Kirlian work will expand as the pubic becomes more aware and demanding further self evidence that they are healing on a level that is invisible to most humans. It is still a relatively new science in North America but as soon as it is researched other professionals will become involved. I see it developing in Holistic Programmes showing novice therapists that through their intentions and work; energy is shifted towards healing and wholeness. It will be an advantageous tool in monitoring a client's progress. It is so useful in the health-care arena that I am surprised more Doctor's haven't used it. In any case this field of research will be very innovate and useful.
